In Loving Memory of Trevor Alan Monerville 1988 – 2021

We are the Trevor Monerville Campaign which was established by the family of Trevor Alan Monerville (known as Trev) following his sudden death on 18 April 2021 while in the custody of HMP Lewes – Trevor was 32 years old and a father of one child.

2025 will mark four years since the loss of Trevor who was firstly a son, and a brother, father, uncle, grandson, and friend.

Trevor was a loving, caring and kind person. He was always willing to help others. He was known as the handyman of the family, if you needed something to be fixed you could always rely on Trevor to fix it. His favourite sport was basketball, he had the right frame and the perfect height as a he was very tall. He was very sociable and mostly leaned towards people that were older than him as he loved knowledge and gaining wisdom. He was the life and soul of any gathering he attended and was a very family-oriented person. He had a big personality which has left us, his family, feeling empty.

In December 2020 Trevor, who was an epilepsy sufferer, was in HMPS Lewes waiting for a hearing date. From his arrival he would complain on many accounts about the level of care that he was receiving. As he suffered from seizures very frequently, he felt that the staff had little to no knowledge of how to manage his seizures. On many occasions he had to self-manage himself.

He was not receiving the right doses of medication and there were issues with his dietary requirements amongst other things. He had put in many complaints to the prison officer, the nurses in the prison and the governor of the prison. NHS Direct was informed after his mother received calls from him. Not only was Trevor actively advocating for himself, our mother was making calls to the safeguarding team, writing letters to the prison regarding his medication and also reaching out to the NHS. HMP Lewes had a duty of care to make sure the Trevor was safe but failed him terribly, so many time before, and after.
