Meeting with Bambos Charalambous

The Trevor Monerville Campaign aims to bring about change to how His Majesty’s Prison Service (HMPS) caters to individuals that are incarcerated whether short or long term, and that suffer from Epilepsy, are cared for, managed, and handled while in these institutions.

We will fight for change resulting in HMPS having a better education and Epilepsy training that is mandatory ensuring that all staff are aware of how individuals should be put in a recovery position, seizures first aid training, implementing seizures tracking sheet, as well as other measures that will lead to better care of Epilepsy sufferers.

Better awareness needs to be ingrained into all HMPS establishments around the UK. The Trevor Monerville Campaign will be pushing for change for every individual to ensure that they receive better care.

Accountability is also needed for those that are responsible for any failings where HMPS has a duty of care to those in detention. There needs to be a change in the current practices so that each human can feel that they are treated fairly.

Since the Inquest which commenced in July 2022, the family have been in contact with the local MP who has agreed to take Trevor’s story to the House of Commons and ask for change in practice in how people who are epileptic are treated.

The family will continue to push for change and participate in campaigns in order to get Trevor’s story heard far and wide, and to ensure that no more deaths like Trevor’s occurs, and other families do not need to go through what we are going through due to the failings of the systems.

Trevor will get justice, and change will happen for every other epilepsy sufferer. We are the voices of so many other individuals whose voices cannot and are not heard. This campaign stands for change, together we are strong and mighty and can make a difference.

The Trevor Monerville Campaign are also working alongside Epilepsy Action to formulate a plan for change in safeguarding policies and improvement of staff training across the country.
